Photosynthesis: the process in which plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide into oxygen.
Decomposers: organisms that breaks down the cells of dead plants and animals
At the first trophic level the plants (primary producers) will turn the lights energy into chemical energy through the process of photosynthesis. The herbivores (primary consumers) are the ones that consume the producers. The secondary consumers then consume the primary consumers; they are then eaten by the tertiary consumers. When the tertiary consumers away their bodies are then broken down into the soil by the decomposers (ie. Maggots, worms, mushrooms). The primary producers get 100% of the suns energy since they are in direct contact with it, the primary consumer, consumes 10% of the original light energy, the secondary consumers, consume 1% of the original light energy, and the tertiary consumers, consume 0.1% of the original light energy.
